My Treasure Trove

One fine day, I was spring-cleaning in my storeroom to usher in the “Year of the Rabbit”. I was clearing up my old stuff when I stumbled upon two brown wooden boxes. The boxes had remained untouched for years and were collecting layers of dust. I made no attempt to open them until my wife asserted that “all unwanted stuff” belonged in the trash can. Somehow, sentimentality got to me and the boxes were saved!

The next morning, I decided to open the boxes. Lo and behold, I was looking at sheets of paper with jottings. They were actually jottings about my travels as a lion district governor many years ago. At first, I could vaguely recall some of these events. As the memories rekindled, I decided to reminisce the bygone days and nostalgia of Lionism in the early 60s. You see, Lionism runs deep in my veins. I know that these “moments in time” necessitate documentation of sorts, lest it is forgotten.  Viola, this blog was born!

I started posting old newsletter reports, letters, photographs, and newspaper clippings in this blog. These postings really encapsulate the people, their emotions, and the moments: laughter and joy, the spirit of giving and sharing, boundless friendship, challenges and sacrifices, the preparations and protocols … in essence a brief of District 308B Lionism. Unfortunately, volumes of photographs went missing or could not be retrieved.

Later part of my Lionistic journey, my good friend Lion James Andres who was the district chairman for district bulletins, told me that rapid technological advancement has rendered my old zip filers useless.

I have posted whatever I could salvage from my “treasure trove” as well as memory and shared this reminiscence in this blog. My sincere hope that you will get a glimpse of Lionism as seen from my sojourn as a Lion, a District Governor, and a Council Chairperson. Bonne lecture!
