Candidate for Vice District Governor

The accolades spurred me to take it a step further in the Lions’ hierarchy. I considered myself blessed as my family and club members fully supported my aspirations. My club, Lions Club of George Town Mutiara endorsed my candidature as VDG and submitted it to the district. It was not easy and there was much preparation and work to be done before the convention. I had to stay motivated and focused on my goal to be elected as VDG.

Thanks to my club, my campaign manager and my working team, and Lions supporters in the district, I was elected Vice District Governor at the Lions Convention in Sibu in 1996.

Past President Anthony Goh introduced my candidature for Vice District Governor.

My Campaign Team

As a vice district governor, I sat through all the cabinet meetings and I learned a lot. I was able to find out about the activities of the clubs in the district and their membership. I evaluated them and took notice of the weaker clubs. This would be important as it would soon be part of my job to strengthen them when I took over the helm of the district. Normally, the active clubs are administered by themselves with membership orientation conducted regularly. They have a membership of over 20. They have regular club meetings, attendance with quorum, comfortable meeting rooms, projects, and fellowship activities among their members.

During the mid-fiscal year, I would have known who were the active Lions and who were dedicated and able to help the district the following year. They could help me in the cabinet. I need to spread the wings of good administration when the time came. I needed representatives all over the district. All this must be done discreetly.

There was no turning back for me as the District Governorship came a-calling the following year. It was full throttle in my campaign for District Governor during the election call.

In April 1997 the electorates in the Lions Convention in Melaka decided that I should head the Movement in District 308B. The pinnacle of Lionism in Malaysia!
